Susan Hopkins, ASID, CID has experienced an incredibly passionate and intense life-long exposure and endless practice of the creative and theatrical arts. Susan’s involvement in dance, choreography, acting, singing, set and prop design, specialty costume design, sculpture, painting, and drawing coupled with her extraordinary daily commitment to a thorough interview and design process within her interior design practice provides her with an unusually rare insight into what’s missing from the industry in terms of style, function, size, comfort, and livability in furniture.
Susan graduated from Drexel University’s Accredited Interior Design program in 2002, which was ranked ninth in the country at the time, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Her experience prior to creating her own design firm was very diverse. Her experience entailed designing custom homes between 5,000-11,000 sf with architecture and interior design firms. She was the sole space planner for the entire nation within the Design and Construction Department of a fortune 500 company, as the youngest employee at age 22. She also worked for a design-build company designing hotels, restaurants, commercial and executive buildings, and medical office buildings as large as 300,000sf. She started her own interior design company in 2006 focusing on high-end and luxury residential interior design, but has taken on a few commercial projects along the way. Some of her greatest achievements to date was passing the NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Certification) exam in 2008, and becoming a Certified Interior Designer in 2009.
In 2012, Susan was invited to be on NBC’s “George to the Rescue” as Interior Designer and Project Manager to transform two spaces for a breast cancer survivor who started a non-profit to help other cancer patients. It was for this show that she designed the first pieces of furniture that would ultimately start her career in furniture and lead her to the connect with Kristin.
Designing furniture for the Kristin Drohan Collection has been a seamless extension of Susan’s passion for interior design and her brand. Kristin has created such a high quality and responsible furniture brand that aligns perfectly with the high level of expectation Susan has for furniture with a powerful highlight that it’s all made in the USA. The unwillingness to sacrifice quality, comfort or the details that make our furnishings stand out from the rest, has been a clear sign that it was a perfect conduit for Susan’s designs.
You’ll find that Susan’s aesthetic is timeless with an edge. She likes to combine geometrics with the organic, which translates perfectly into spaces that welcome a symbiotic atmosphere for antiques mixed with clean lines and contemporary pieces.
