Okay, so long time no post..what’s new.\u00a0 Along with all the normal stuff (kids back to school, work, etc), I have been working on re doing my kitchen island.\u00a0 Recently, I did a fluff on the kitchen with new cabinet paint, lighting, fridge and\u00a0refinished\u00a0hardwood floors.\u00a0 After living in this house for a year, we now realize that the island does not\u00a0function well and is too small for our family.\u00a0 The dishwasher was on it’s last leg too.\u00a0 It was time to do something about it.\u00a0 Purchasing a new Thermador cooktop and Bosch dishwasher and designing the new shape of the island came easy.\u00a0 The challenge was what countertop surface to put on the new island.\u00a0 I have Baltic Brown granite (we know how I feel about that<\/a>)\u00a0on black perimeter cabinets with a travertine back splash (snooze).\u00a0 I had the\u00a0existing island painted\u00a0peacock blue (not so snoozy).\u00a0 <\/p>\n

I had considered every countertop option…marble, slate, soapstone, granite, stainless steel, wood, quartz, you name it.\u00a0 I quickly ruled out wood, because of the cooktop and stainless just doesn’t\u00a0work aesthetically.\u00a0I really liked the idea of quartz but I could not find one that worked, so off to the stone yards I went.\u00a0 I almost pulled the trigger on a slab of Crema Cream marble, pictured here.<\/p>\n

It was so pretty, but my gut told me “no”.\u00a0 As I was leaving, yet another stone yard, the owner asked if I’d heard of leathered granite. I was aware of honed granite but leathered granite was new to me. She then showed me some leathered Black Pearl granite and I knew right away, that was it.\u00a0 It was unique, cool and perfect.\u00a0 She also\u00a0assured me that it doesn’t show finger prints and is very low maintenance.\u00a0 It is hard to tell from this picture, but it has a slight texture, with a matte finish. The Black Pearl has a slatey black background with some hints of taupey beige.

Now, I’m totally excited.\u00a0 Everything is to be installed next week, so I will post a before and after when it is finished. Not looking forward to the contractors in my house every day though.\u00a0I’m completely over that. Fingers crossed everything goes as planned too.\u00a0 We are already experiencing glitches.\u00a0 The cabinet guy is having a have time getting the finish to dry in this humid weather.\u00a0 Urrghhhh, To be continued…<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
