Okay, I have to admit the poll from last week's Free Advice was really interesting. I had tallied up the master bedrooms I'd done for my clients and the results were very similiar. Since we are on master bedrooms, I thought this was the perfect choice for free advice this week.

I would love your advice regarding our master bedroom.
I have several issues with this room. We have two casement windows on either side where our bed sits. I'm not crazy about the windows but my husband designed them into the plan when we built our house (he's an engineer). While I like the natural light coming through, I just feel it needs something. We have two other windows in the room with drapes hanging. I wanted to know what I could put over the bed. Right now, I haven't placed anything on the walls (except the t.v.). I'm not sure what colors to bring into this room because right now, the room is monochromatic. I eventually want to get a bench for the front of the bed. Right now, we have something temporary. My husband wants something with storage but I think those are so bulky. I would also love to add a chair in the room too.
Details: Paint, Benjamin Moore, "Indian River". Bedding, Waterford "Tatiana"; furniture (Thomasville Lumine collection in Walnut).
Thank you.
I wanted you to get a true picture of the color on the wall and the fabric on the headboard. The top is the wall color BM Indian River and and the bottom the matches the headboard fabric, BM Creekbed.
Solution:
Specified Fabric Swatches
This room has a really good start with some pretty furnishings. There are a few things she could do to take it to the next level and add the finishing touches.
- Although the current drapery is pretty, injecting some color with a gorgeous chocolate silk and plum embroidery (second fabric ) would add dimension. Taking the drapery to the ceiling adds drama. The side windows can have panels on either side of each window, hung straight, at the ceiling.
- Add a chair uphostered in a textured chenille Plum (pictured last). I've shown some suggested chair styles.
- Add pillows in a Chocolate, Taupe, and Plum stripe velvet and the Plum tone on tone linen (pictured 1st). Consider changing the Euro pillows to any of the above fabrics.
- Add a sunburst mirror over the bed to increase the drama and add shimmer.
- Storage ottomans don't have to be bulky. The one shown is the same dimensions as their current bench at the foot of the bed. It could be upholstered in any of the above fabrics. I'd pick the stripe.

What an interesting solution! I never would’ve thought to do that, but it really softens up the room and makes it look more finished. Love your Free Advice Fridays! 🙂
